Pasquotank County Release Paths
Pasquotank local custody is regional. The Albemarle District Jail, or ADJ, serves Pasquotank, Camden, and Perquimans counties. The Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office may hold an arrest or incident record, while ADJ keeps the local confinement record and the clerk keeps the court case. Those records answer different questions. A person who walks out after satisfying a bond has been released before trial. Someone delivered to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, or NCDAC, has left local custody but remains confined.
The record should preserve the agency's exact release term. “Time served” connects the exit to a judgment that credits time already spent in custody. “Discharge” can mean the sentence or supervision has ended. Parole is discretionary release under older sentencing law, while post-release supervision follows many modern felony prison terms. An unsecured bond permits pretrial release without posting a secured sum. A transfer, hospital movement, death, or immigration pickup is not a community release.
| Recorded event | What it means | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond, written promise, or unsecured release | Pretrial custody ends under court conditions; guilt is not decided. | ADJ release entry and Pasquotank court order |
| Time served or sentence expiration | The custodial part of the judgment is complete, though supervision may remain. | Judgment, release entry, and NCDAC history when applicable |
| Transfer to NCDAC | The local booking closes as state custody begins. | NCDAC Offender Public Information |
| Parole or post-release supervision | Prison confinement ends while legal supervision continues. | NCDAC supervision event and Commission records |
| Federal or ICE transfer | County criminal custody ends, but another authority may take custody. | BOP, federal docket, USMS, or ICE source |
Note: A closed Albemarle District Jail booking may mark a transfer, so confirm the receiving authority before calling it community release.
Pasquotank Release Record Fields
An existing booking-and-release record is more precise than a request for “all information.” Give ADJ the full name and approximate confinement dates, plus the booking or case number when known. Ask for public portions and permit redaction of protected details. The goal is a record already held by the agency, not a custom report that staff must create.
| Field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Booking number | Connects the request to the correct local custody episode. |
| Booking date and time | Shows when ADJ processed the admission. |
| Actual release date and time | Shows when local processing ended, not merely when a judge signed an order. |
| Release type and authority | Distinguishes bond, sentence action, court order, or another stated basis. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Can separate community release from a transfer when the field is public. |
| Charges at release | Ties the exit to the booking, without proving guilt. |
| Property or funds receipt | May support the time ADJ closed an account or returned property. |
A court-order time, scheduled release date, and physical exit time may all differ. If the legal authority matters, obtain the order or judgment. If the actual departure matters, request the administrative release entry. A final NCDAC discharge is yet another event and may occur after a person has lived in the community under supervision.
Request Pasquotank Release Records
Albemarle District Jail is the first custodian for its booking and release series. It is located at 210 Executive Drive South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, and the detention line is 252-335-4844. The official site does not publish a dedicated records form, a fixed release-record fee, a promised response time, or a former-booking retention period. North Carolina law therefore supplies the request framework while ADJ identifies its current delivery channel.
- Identify the person, approximate booking dates, Pasquotank case number, and booking number. Ask which ADJ unit accepts an electronic Chapter 132 request.
- Request the existing booking and release entry, actual exit time, release type and authority, charges, and any public destination field. Ask separately for a booking image if needed.
- State that electronic copies are preferred. Request a cost estimate before any special service charge or copying cost is incurred.
- Ask the custodian to produce public portions after redaction and to cite the law for each withheld part.
- Pair the response with the matching court order or NCDAC event. Keep the date each source was retrieved.
A narrow request for existing rows is stronger than asking ADJ to compile a new release list or conduct an investigation.
G.S. 132-6 requires inspection and copies as promptly as possible. G.S. 132-6.2 permits a medium the agency can provide, limits ordinary uncertified-copy fees to actual reproduction cost unless another law applies, and allows a reasonable special service charge for extensive work. No researched source supports quoting a flat Pasquotank release-record price.
Note: Ask for a fee estimate before production because Pasquotank research found no fixed local release-record charge or promised response time.
Pasquotank Release Debit Card Receipt
ADJ has a local release-adjacent record that many searches miss. Its inmate funds policy says remaining account money is placed on a debit card when a person is released or transferred for more than 24 hours. The recipient signs a receipt. That receipt may help show when the jail closed the account and completed a property-related step.
It cannot prove a return to the community. The same debit-card procedure applies to a qualifying transfer. Request the receipt with the booking-and-release entry, then compare the destination field, court commitment, and later NCDAC or federal record. This is corroboration, not a stand-alone release certificate.
Pasquotank Records After Expunction
Leaving a live roster does not mean the underlying record was erased. Public interfaces, operational databases, archives, and retention schedules are separate. North Carolina Chapter 132 defines public records broadly but also protects specified criminal-investigation, juvenile, medical, security-sensitive, sealed, and confidential corrections information. When public and protected facts share one document, the agency generally should separate the protected material rather than withhold the whole record.
An expunction is a court process that removes qualifying state arrest, charge, or conviction records from public access. It is not a release type. The North Carolina Judicial Branch expunction resource explains the process and directs follow-up to the clerk that granted the order. Do not rebuild an expunged event from cached pages. A lawful no-result can support only the statement that no accessible record was found.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision obligation, depending on the record.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to hold or receive a person.
- Expunction
- A court-ordered removal of qualifying state records from public access.
- Time served
- A judgment that credits qualifying custody toward the imposed term.
Find Pasquotank Released Inmates
Start with the agency tied to the latest known custody. A missing name is only an observation. Record the source and time checked, then follow the custody ladder until two records point to the same event. Stable identifiers reduce false matches, especially with aliases, suffixes, and common names.
- Check ADJ through its official VINE link and call the jail. Ask whether the booking ended by community release or transfer.
- Search NCDAC by offender number, then by name and neutral identity fields. A new admission means state custody, not freedom.
- Open the Pasquotank eCourts case. Compare bond orders, disposition, judgment, and commitment events with the jail timestamp.
- Use NC SAVAN/VINELink for a custody-change notice and preserve the update time. Confirm the event with its source agency.
- For a federal or immigration path, use the BOP Locator, federal docket, USMS contact, or ICE locator as appropriate.
- Request the release record when an online source is absent, incomplete, or unclear.
Released people usually leave a current jail lookup. A disappearance can also reflect transfer, so roster absence alone does not establish community release.
The Pasquotank 24-Hour Releases page focuses on same-day activity and its manual fallback. A named-person check belongs in the custody ladder above.
Pasquotank State Release Search
The NCDAC Criminal Offender Searches page states that Offender Public Information covers North Carolina prison offenders, probationers, and parolees, with historical information generally reaching back to 1972. It expressly excludes county-jail data. That boundary matters: OPI can show what happened after an ADJ transfer to state custody, but it cannot substitute for the Pasquotank local booking-and-release record.
The official NCDAC source page shows how the state products are separated.
This distinction keeps a state prison discharge from being mistaken for a regional jail release.
| Search field or result | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Offender number | Preferred stable identifier for finding and revisiting one record. |
| Last and first name | Start broad, then compare middle initial, age, race, or sex only to distinguish results. |
| Overall status | Read with the full incarceration and supervision chronology. |
| Admission and release history | Shows state custody events and whether a later admission followed. |
| Release or projected date | Copy the exact label and retrieval date; a projection can change. |
| Supervision entry | Can show parole, probation, or post-release activity after prison. |
Pasquotank Release Court Trail
Pasquotank joined an early eCourts rollout, and all North Carolina counties now use Odyssey. The eCourts Portal and clerk terminals can preserve a case disposition after the current custody entry disappears. Search the case tied to the booking, not merely another case under the same name. A bond order supplies legal authority, but ADJ may finish processing later. A commitment may instead predict transfer to NCDAC.
The official Portal search shows the case-search route available to the public.
The case chronology explains what the court ordered; the jail release entry remains the source for the physical exit time.
Note: Preserve both dates when the court order and ADJ processing entry fall on different days; each records a separate event.
Pasquotank Bond Release Rules
The First Judicial District pretrial-release policy effective December 1, 2025 covers Pasquotank and six neighboring counties. It addresses secured and unsecured release, categories reserved for a judge, legally relevant appearance and safety factors, and jail-capacity concerns within G.S. 15A-533 and 15A-534. The policy helps explain why a court may authorize a bond change.
Bond release is not a sentence completion or an acquittal. It ends pretrial confinement once the required conditions are met and ADJ completes processing. Match the signed order with the release timestamp. If charges later end by dismissal, not-guilty finding, plea, or judgment, that separate disposition belongs in the court chronology.
Travel After Pasquotank Release
The Inter-County Public Transportation Authority is the regional public provider. ICPTA says anyone can ride, and its ride lines are 252-338-4480 and 877-338-4480. Published service is mainly on weekdays and generally calls for 48 hours of advance scheduling.
No source promises pickup at the jail gate. ICPTA is useful for a planned regional trip, not an emergency ride after an unexpected or late release. A person arranging transport should confirm the actual release time with ADJ, then confirm the current route, pickup point, reservation, and operating window with ICPTA.
Note: ICPTA generally requires advance scheduling, so its public ride line should not be presented as an on-demand jail release service.
Pasquotank Post-Release Support
An NCDAC supervision entry can outlast prison confinement. Probation is usually a court-ordered community sentence or suspended-sentence condition. Post-release supervision follows release from many Structured Sentencing felony terms. Parole mainly concerns eligible older-law cases. “Active” must be read with later incarceration events, while “absconder” alleges a failure to remain in contact and does not prove a new conviction.
Beloved Haven's G.R.A.C.E. program describes weekly trauma-informed outreach for women in ADJ and continued services or referrals after release for people within its mission. It is a local navigation option, not a guaranteed benefit and not proof that a person was released. Verification of supervision belongs with NCDAC and the Pasquotank Post-Release Supervision process.
Pasquotank Release to ICE
A 2020 ICE 287(g) Warrant Service Officer agreement with ADJ described transfer of covered people to ICE at scheduled release from criminal custody. Its present operation must be checked rather than assumed. The document still explains a crucial records problem: a local “release” may close criminal custody and begin immigration custody instead of returning the person to the community.
Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator for current locatable detention and the ICE information line for follow-up. A no-result may reflect timing, transfer, release, removal, restricted data, or an input mismatch. It is not a historic clearance. For a federal criminal case, BOP and the federal docket cover different parts of the path, while USMS often controls pretrial movement.
Pasquotank Custody Source Comparison
Each official system proves only the event it records. Match the source to the question before drawing a conclusion.
| Source | Best evidence | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| ADJ/VINE current lookup | Current reported local custody or a recent notification | A missing record does not prove community release |
| ADJ release record | Actual local exit time, type, and public destination field | Requires a direct inquiry or records request |
| eCourts and clerk | Bond order, disposition, judgment, or commitment | Court action may precede jail processing |
| NCDAC OPI | State prison, release, discharge, and supervision history | Excludes Pasquotank county-jail information |
| BOP Locator | Federal BOP release date for covered records | Does not prove all other custody or supervision ended |
| ICE locator | Current locatable ICE detention | Not a historical release database |
When two official dates differ, preserve both. A court may order release one day and ADJ may complete processing the next. Describe each source and timestamp instead of forcing one date to replace the other.
Pasquotank Release Facility History
ADJ is not merely another name for a county jail. Its official history traces the regional project to a 44-bed jail opened in 1972, an expansion to a rated 90 beds, and a 2010 move to the present Pasquotank Commerce Park facility. The current building was designed for 248 beds, with infrastructure for possible expansion to 500.
Those facts help separate the present jail from old addresses and unofficial “Pasquotank jail” listings. They also explain why the arresting agency, prosecuting county, physical place of confinement, and record custodian may differ. Use the current ADJ contact and the court county tied to the case.
Pasquotank Release Facilities
Four facility paths cover the researched custody routes. Each uses a different release record and locator.
- Albemarle District Jail is the regional local jail. Confirm an exit through ADJ, VINE, and the originating court.
- Pasquotank Correctional Institution is an NCDAC state prison. Use OPI and DAC records for release or discharge.
- Pasquotank County Courthouse holding areas are temporary. The order and clerk file document the next legal step.
- Federal contract, USMS, or ICE custody may follow a local booking. Use the federal or immigration source tied to that movement.
A courthouse holding cell is not a sentence-serving jail, and no stand-alone BOP or ICE prison was found in Pasquotank County. The facility page for each path explains the correct confirmation route without turning a local roster absence into a release claim.
Note: Use the facility that last exercised custody, not merely the agency that made the original Pasquotank County arrest.
