Pasquotank Prison Release Paths
Pasquotank Correctional Institution is a state prison operated by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. It is not the Pasquotank County local jail. Men may arrive after commitment from a county jail or through transfer from another state institution. They may leave this prison through another NCDAC transfer, release to post-release supervision, parole in an eligible older-law case, expiration of sentence, a court order, medical release, or death.
The facility movement row must be read within the full state record. “Released” from one prison location can reflect departure from that site while state custody continues elsewhere. A consistent sequence is stronger: admission history, institution movements, sentence entries, overall offender status, actual release event, and any supervision that follows. If the record shows active post-release supervision, the person has left prison but has not yet reached final sentence termination.
| Departure type | Public record to check | Custody meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Inter-prison transfer | OPI institution history | NCDAC prison custody continues |
| Post-release supervision | Release event and supervision entry | Physical prison custody ends; supervised sentence continues |
| Parole | OPI plus Commission source | Eligible older-law release under supervision |
| Sentence expiration | Actual release and inactive status | Complete service with no required PRS report under the cited policy definition |
| Return to sheriff | Movement and receiving authority | State-prison leg ends while another custody leg may begin |
Confirm Pasquotank Prison Releases
The correct public route begins at NCDAC Criminal Offender Searches. NCDAC says Offender Public Information covers state prison offenders, probationers, and parolees and generally includes history back to 1972. It expressly excludes county-jail information. This boundary prevents an Albemarle District Jail booking from being mistaken for a Pasquotank Correctional Institution record.
- Open the NCDAC OPI search. Use the offender number when known because it is safer than a common name.
- For a name search, start with first and last name. Add a middle initial, age, race, or sex only as the form permits to separate matches.
- Open the correct offender summary. Compare the offender number, conviction county, offense, admission date, and other neutral identifiers.
- Read every incarceration, sentence, release, and supervision entry. Do not rely only on the result-grid status.
- Record the exact labels and retrieval date. Ask NCDAC for the existing record if the public chronology does not settle the release type.
Pasquotank Release Record Fields
A released state record can include an overall inactive or released status, incarceration history, sentence and offense data, county of conviction, actual release or discharge dates, supervision entries, aliases, and a state correctional photograph where displayed. Labels vary by case age and record type. Copy each label exactly instead of converting every departure into a generic “release date.”
| OPI field | How it helps | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Offender number | Links records and repeat searches | Not the same as a local booking number |
| Overall status | Shows active, supervised, or inactive state status | Must be read with later events |
| Institution history | Places the person at Pasquotank CI or another prison | A facility departure can be a transfer |
| Actual release event | Records departure from state prison custody | Supervision or other custody can follow |
| Supervision entry | Shows post-release, parole, or probation status | Public data may not list an individual officer |
| Projected date | Shows an expected milestone when offered | May change and is not a promise |
A later admission can show a return to custody. An inactive state record does not answer whether a separate county, federal, or immigration authority holds the person. The Pasquotank County released-inmate search provides the cross-system custody ladder when the state record is only one part of the path.
Note: An OPI location change is not community release unless the later status and event sequence support that conclusion.
Pasquotank Prison Records Contact
The institution's official page supplies the facility address and main phone. Use it for facility directory questions. OPI and central NCDAC are the public paths for an individual's correctional and release history. The prison is not the custodian of Pasquotank County jail records or local court documents.

Official NCDAC facility page
Use the NCDAC public-records request route when OPI does not provide enough detail. Identify the offender number and ask for existing admission, movement, actual release-type, release-date, and supervision start or termination records that are public. NCDAC may need to review and redact a request because many internal offender records are confidential. No universal fixed turnaround or no-fee promise should be assumed.
Note: Central DAC records cover state prison and Community Supervision, not county or city jail bookings.
Pasquotank Prison Facility Profile
The official NCDAC directory identifies Pasquotank Correctional Institution as a male close- and minimum-custody prison that opened in 1996. Its published capacity is 896. A March 18, 2026 agency release reported that about 475 men were housed there during an accreditation review, but daily population changes. The stable capacity and directory facts should not be confused with a live head count.
The official Pasquotank CI page is the source for its facility identity and current directory details.
The page confirms the NCDAC operator and prison type, which is why a statewide offender record, not a county roster, governs release verification.
Pasquotank Projected Release Dates
OPI may display a projected release date, maximum release date, or a related sentence date for an active record. Capture the exact term shown. A projection can change because of jail credit, corrections to the judgment, concurrent or consecutive sentence structure, earned-time awards or forfeitures, discipline, appeal orders, reassignment, transfer, or another detainer. Only NCDAC can state its current official calculation.
North Carolina Structured Sentencing does not create a general rule that every state prisoner serves about 85 percent. The judicial minimum is the floor for a covered felony. Earned time may reduce the maximum toward that minimum but not below it under G.S. 15A-1340.13(d). A physical prison release to post-release supervision can occur before maximum expiration, yet the supervised sentence continues.
- Projected date
- An expected administrative date that can move.
- Actual release
- The recorded physical departure from prison custody.
- Post-release supervision
- A period outside prison under NCDAC supervision that remains part of the sentence.
- Expiration
- Complete service with no required report to parole or post-release supervision under the cited DAC policy definition.
Pasquotank Release Supervision
Modern North Carolina cases generally use post-release supervision rather than discretionary parole. The Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission sets conditions for covered releases. NCDAC Community Supervision administers cases in the community. Older cases that remain eligible under prior sentencing law can still involve parole, so the offense date and actual record language matter.
Read an “active” supervision entry beside the most recent prison event. It can show that the person has left Pasquotank CI while remaining subject to the sentence. An absconder status alleges a failure to stay in contact with supervision and is not proof of a new conviction. A terminated or completed supervision event may mark a later stage than the prison release itself. For verification steps and agency roles, consult the Pasquotank post-release supervision page.
Interstate transfer can move supervision outside the expected local district. It does not erase the underlying NCDAC record. Staff should receive the offender number when asked to confirm public status, but personal reporting instructions must come directly from NCDAC to the person being supervised.
Final discharge is a later question. A prison release date marks the end of physical confinement, while a supervision termination entry can mark completion of the remaining sentence framework. Compare both dates before describing the record. If OPI appears incomplete, request the existing supervision start and termination fields from NCDAC rather than estimating an end date from the original term.
Pasquotank Release Evidence Chain
A reliable state-prison conclusion uses more than one field. First identify the person with the offender number. Next place the person at Pasquotank Correctional Institution through the institution history. Then find the departure event and read the overall status. Finally, look for a later prison admission or supervision event. A receiving authority or later event can change the meaning of the first departure.
Court records are useful when a sentence was corrected, vacated, or changed on appeal. The county of conviction may not be Pasquotank, even when the person was housed at this prison. Likewise, the NCDAC offender-releases search can identify state releases in a chosen period, but a county filter is not proof that someone physically left Pasquotank CI. Result-level review remains essential.
Note: Record the retrieval date because OPI status, projections, and supervision history can change after a saved screenshot.
